Ajdin is in his dream profession

Nuori bosnialainen mies nojaa parturiliikkeensä ikkunaan.

Good news from Bosnia reaches Finland: young Roma in Tuzla have completed their vocational training and found employment. Today, we meet one of these determined youth, Ajdin.

In a country where youth unemployment is high and the Roma face ongoing discrimination, Ajdin’s success is a double achievement. In the heart of Tuzla, known for its salt mines, Ajdin Beganovic, 21, proudly works in a stylish barbershop. He’s one of the young people from the Kiseljak Roma community who has graduated into his dream profession.

“I enjoy everything about my job — cutting hair, chatting with clients, and learning new things,” he says.

He is grateful for the support from his sponsors and the local team over the years: “Honestly, without their help, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I believe that young people should be supported — not just me, but everyone.”

A Strengthened Dream

Ajdin opened his first barbershop on his birthday in Kiseljak, where he worked for nearly a year. However, the village offered limited growth potential, so he started searching for a new space, eventually finding it right in downtown Tuzla.

“I have more clients here, and prices are different too. There’s more space and opportunities to grow.”

While many young Bosnians leave the country seeking a better life, Ajdin wants to succeed at home and set an example. He dreams of opening more unique barbershops that stand out. He closes the interview with words of encouragement:

“Don’t give up on your dreams. I started with nothing and look how far I’ve come.”
