In Nepal, Fida promotes the model of the Safe Schools Programme. The work is accomplished alongside local organisations Rescue Nepal, Relative Nepal, New Life Service Association, and Transformation Nepal.

Nepal is one of the least developed countries in Asia. The COVID-19 pandemic led to up to half of children dropped out of primary and secondary school, as school closures were long-lasting. Remote learning opportunities failed to reach many children and young people. Girls and children with disabilities are in a particularly vulnerable position in Nepalese society.

Safe School Pathways for Children and Youth

Fida’s programme in Nepal seeks to respond to these challenges by building models of safe school pathways. Its aim is for every child’s educational path to be realised from at least primary to secondary level education. Teachers are trained in child-centred and inclusive teaching methods. Collaboration between schools and homes is also being strengthened. The use of technology is promoted to enable students to use digital learning materials and to support the administrative work of schools.

We support our children’s schooling by being on the school management committee, because we know how important education is for the future of our children.

Young people are offered education and career guidance, to help them transition from one level of education to another. Additionally, adult literacy programs and entrepreneurship training are offered to improve livelihood opportunities for young people and families. Partner organisations receive support and training to enable them to be innovative advocates for the rights of children and young people in Nepal.

Organic Farming as a Pathway out of Poverty

Fida’s development work programme also develops the livelihood opportunities of families as a part of increasing comprehensive wellbeing. Partner organisation, Relative Nepal, organises training in organic farming, which not only includes training in cultivation methods, but training in agribusiness, as well as guidance on how to better be able to sell one’s products.
