Hope and resilience amidst conflict
The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is facing one of the world’s longest-running humanitarian crises. Fida supports people affected by conflict in Tanganyika province.
Prolonged conflict has forced many people to flee their homes. Many have experienced violence, loss and insecurity. Many families struggle to secure enough food and other basic necessities.
In 2026, Fida’s humanitarian programme will directly reach 21,447 people:
- We focus on those in the most vulnerable situations – children, women and persons with disabilities.
- Food security. We support 1,455 vulnerable households in strengthening their livelihoods and food security. Families receive assistance such as cash support, enabling them to purchase food and meet their basic needs.
- Particular attention is given to households where a single mother or grandmother carries the main responsibility for caring for the children.
- Psycosocial support. We provide psychosocial support for adults and children, helping them process their experiences and regain a sense of safety and hope for the future. This support strengthens well-being and coping skills.
- In 2026, the programme strengthens the protection and resilience of 8,353 people.
- Special attention is given to survivors of sexual violence and to children at risk, including orphans, former child soldiers and children who have experienced violence.
Strengthening communities to respond to crises
Fida’s programme strengthens the capacity of 75 local civil society organisations in areas such as protection, security, advocacy and emergency response. As local actors become stronger, communities are better equipped to support people also in future crises.
Community-based structures are also established, including savings and loan groups, children’s clubs and support groups. These initiatives provide parents and caregivers with support and practical tools to promote children’s well-being.
The programme is implemented together with Fida’s Congolese partner church CEPAC (Communauté des Églises de Pentecôte en Afrique Centrale) and in cooperation with other local civil society organisations in Tanganyika Province.
Humanitarian programme is funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland.
