We help in greatest distress when war, natural disaster, or crisis strikes.
When natural disaster or war strikes, the most important thing is to rapidly provide emergency aid, food, clean water, and shelter. We support families living in the midst of crisis with a long-term approach, bringing hope into challenging situations.
Crises are often complex and protracted. Vulnerable people may need help with everyday survival for years to come.
Fida specialises in supporting families to cope within protracted humanitarian emergencies.
How we Help in Crisis Areas:
- We create support networks and facilitate peer support for families to strengthen their mental wellbeing.
- We create safe spaces for children to play and learn.
- We strengthen the inclusion of people with disabilities within communities.
- We provide cash assistance, so that people living in the midst of emergency can buy medicine, food, and clothing, or pay electricity bills, for example.
Local Support Ensures Reliable Assistance
Fida will deliver your assistance. This is ensured by our trusted partners, local denominations and NGOs, who have good networks and long-standing presences in crisis areas.
Fida’s humanitarian work is conducted by local people living in crisis areas. Fida supports their survival and strengthens their ability to recover from hardships, so that they can help their own communities.
Funding for Humanitarian Operations
Fida receives funding from multiple sources, enabling diverse and effective humanitarian assistance:
- The Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. Fida receives significant annual programme funding for humanitarian aid – in 2024, the amount was €2.75 million.
- The European Union. Fida has a partnership agreement with the European Commission’s humanitarian aid department (ECHO), which allows the organisation to apply for EU funding for humanitarian projects.
- Private Donations. Finnish private donors make a substantial contribution to supporting Fida’s humanitarian work.
- Fida Secondhand Shops. Fida’s secondhand store network in Finland generates funds to support humanitarian efforts.
