Donors are the foundation of Fida’s operations.
Our work is supported by numerous sponsors, donors, second hand customers, as well as donors through various campaigns and collections.
We are committed to responsibly use the donations and public subsidies entrusted to us.
Over half of Fida’s funding comes from public subsidies, i.e., support for development work and humanitarian aid from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland.
Other important sources of funding are donations, profit from Fida Secondhand Shops, funding from churches, wills, and corporate partnerships.
Fida’s income and operating expenses in 2023
Fida’s income in 2023 totalled 14.3 million EUR. The majority of funding (61%) was granted through Finnish State subsidies for development work and humanitarian aid. One quarter (25%) of funds came from sponsors and private donors. Fida’s secondhand stores generated 400 000 EUR for our work across the globe.
We spent 84% of our funds on work abroad. We spent 16% of our funds on support functions such as administration (8.5%), and communication and fundraising (7.5%). Good management ensures that our work is reliable and carried out as planned.
global work / division in areas and programmes
Fida’s operations largely focus on Africa and the Middle East (60%). Asia comprises 24% and Europe 16% of our operational costs.
Our largest global programmes are Development Cooperation (47%) and Humanitarian Aid (31%). The Churches in Development Programme (11%) (or: Transformational Development Programme) is funded mainly by Fida child sponsors. Church Ministry Program (11%) is supported mainly by the Finnish Pentecostal Churches.
Fida has a money collection permit issued by the National Police Board, No. RA/2021/1532. We are a member of the Finnish Fundraising Association. In line with their principles, Fida promotes a responsible donation culture and ethical NGO fundraising. .
We report to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland annually on the use of public subsidies received, and the results of our work. In addition to the annual audit of our organisation as a whole, every year, external experts carry out financial and performance audits on our projects abroad.
We do not accept corruption or bribery in any form. Our work abroad follows strict guidelines for the prevention of corruption. Read more about the principles of our work.
Fida’s support community consists of Finnish Pentecostal Churches. Fida’s membership consists of churches, and the board consists of representatives elected by churches according to region.
