Escalating armed conflict, natural disasters, and ongoing political and economic instability have pushed millions of people into distress in Myanmar.
According to the UN, nearly one-third of the population is in need of humanitarian assistance, including 6.3 million vulnerable children.
The need for aid is urgent. Around 3.5 million people have already been displaced. Violence, the threat of landmines, and forced labour are on the rise, and nearly half of the population lives below the poverty line.
Fida strengthens food security and mental wellbeing
Fida’s humanitarian programme supports nearly 8,000 people affected by the conflict in the Kachin, Yangon, and Bago regions. The work is carried out in cooperation with a local church denomination and focuses on two main areas:
- Food security: Fida distributes food baskets and cash assistance to families. Learning centres have been established in poor communities together with the local church. These centres provide regular meals to 1,640 households. The aim is to reduce hunger and strengthen families’ resilience.
- Psychosocial wellbeing: Vulnerable families are supported through increased awareness of mental health, practical tools for coping with everyday challenges, and the strengthening of community support networks. This work currently reaches 400 households.
The humanitarian programme runs in 2025–2026 and is funded by the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs (€400,000) and Fida’s emergency appeal.
