We are dedicated to ensuring a safe and protective environment for everyone.
We operate responsibly by considering ecological, economic, and social factors that promote the well-being of the environment and communities.
The name Fida comes from the Latin word for faithful and reliable – qualities we strive to embody in everything we do.
Sustainability and environmental consideration have been central to our operations long before the concept of the circular economy became widespread in Finland. Since 1979, Fida Secondhand Shops have offered Finns the opportunity to donate clothes and items for reuse. The reuse of clothing and goods reduces the burden on our environment.
Fida integrates environmental protection and sustainable development into its aid work worldwide. This means Fida and its partners strive to minimise environmental impact, support local conservation efforts, and mitigate the effects of climate change.
Environmental and disaster risks are carefully considered in project planning to reduce risks to both people and the environment. For example, we work to develop sustainable farming methods in climate-affected areas of East Africa and plant trees in arid regions of southern Nepal to prevent flooding.
Environmental education is central to our work with children and young people. Through tree planting, clean-up days, and sustainability education materials, we teach the next generation to care for the environment.
We are committed to low-emission development and the sustainable use of natural resources and renewable energy. Our procurement guidelines promote eco-friendly practices, prioritising local materials and products and addressing material use, energy consumption, and logistics.
The EcoVadis rating is a key factor in selecting IT equipment for our employees. EcoVadis is a trusted global standard for assessing corporate responsibility, considering environmental impact, labour and human rights, ethics, and sustainable supply chains. We aim to choose equipment that is the most ethical option within its price range.
We monitor the impact of our work continuously, both internally and through external evaluations. Regular audits assess our outcomes, environmental footprint, and the effects of climate change in the areas where we operate. We communicate our environmental policy transparently and aim to set an example for our partner organisations.
